Loads of new shows among Golden Globe nominees
December 12, 2016
The Golden Globes love new shows. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has long been eager to recognize new programs, especially ones that take creative chances.
There’s a slew of them among the Golden Globe nominees announced Monday morning.
NBC’s “This Is Us,” broadcast’s No. 1 new show this fall, is among them, earning a nod for best drama as well as two in the best supporting actress in a drama category for Mandy Moore and Chrissy Metz.
Another new program, FX’s experimental comedy “Atlanta,” nabbed nominations for best comedy as well as best actor for star/creator Donald Glover.
The Globes recognized a slew of new programs, including HBO’s “Westworld,” “Insecure” and “Divorce;” Netflix’s “The Crown;” and Amazon’s “Goliath.”
Only a handful of broadcast shows earned recognition, including ABC’s “black-ish” and the CW’s “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and “Jane the Virgin.”
A number of longtime Globes favorites, such as “Modern Family” and “House of Cards,” were shut out.
The ceremony, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, will air Jan. 8 on NBC.
